Zpool Add Problem · Issue #1028 · Openzfs/zfs · GitHub This looks like an issue with existing labels. you should be able to resolve this using the zpool labelclear command. for example:. Adds the specified virtual devices to the given pool. the vdev specification is described in the virtual devices section of zpoolconcepts (7). the behavior of the f option, and the device checks performed are described in the zpool create subcommand.

Zpool-status.8 — OpenZFS Documentation This caused “zpool import” to give me the very misleading error message which isn’t even documented (if you follow the link, it doesn’t describe the error i got). so there was absolutely nothing wrong; it was a misleading error message caused by the particular choices i made. but i learned a lot during the process. Zfs storage pools ¶ the zpool command ¶ virtual devices ¶ disk file mirror raidz, raidz1, raidz2, raidz3 spare log dedup special cache zpool create tank mirror sda sdb mirror sdc sdd device sanity checks ¶ creating storage pools ¶ adding devices to an existing pool ¶ display options ¶ attaching a mirror device ¶ importing and exporting. Adding top level vdev s with different sector sizes will prohibit future device removal operations, see zpool remove (8). allow in use allow vdevs to be added even if they might be in use in another pool. allow replication mismatch allow vdevs with conflicting replication levels to be added to the pool. Do i need to do anything special before running the "zpool add" command? for example, do i need to pre mirror the two new drives, or will they be mirrored by "zpool add"?.

I sometimes observe a failure to add a cache or log vdev to a zpool. if i issue the same command repeatedly, it eventually succeeds. i only see this for real disks, never for loopback or scsi debug devices. also if i run zpool under stra. I run proxmox on zfs on 4 drives. i had a system crash and couldn't boot, so spun up a live ubuntu image and installed the zfs tools. looks like i need to run zpool import f rpool because "the pool was last accessed by another system", but this command has been hanging for hours. # zpool add pool cache sdc sdd once added, the cache devices gradually fill with content from main memory. depending on the size of your cache devices, it could take over an hour for them to fill. capacity and reads can be monitored using the iostat subcommand as follows: # zpool iostat v pool 5 see also. At creation, a pool is imported into the system, such that an entry in the zpool.cache file is created. at time of import or creation, the pool stores the system's unique hostid and for the purposes of supporting multipath, import into other systems will fail unless forced.
