As this year comes to a close, it’s important to take a moment to celebrate some of the notable achievements of the flickr foundation and talk about what we have to look forward to in the new year. A document that guides priorities and decisions, maintained by the community of the flickr foundation for years to come. we welcome you to a workshop to discuss and develop what a plan with this long term outlook should contain, and what it could exclude. The flickr foundation is being created to preserve and display the huge flickr photography collection for generations to come. part of the framing to establish the foundation is the idea of a ‘100 year plan’. We are going to build: 1) a new registration form, 2) improved onboarding resources/workflow, 3) the new discovery layer you can now see at commons.flickr.org, and 4) better admin tools for the team to watch over the health of the program, and the happiness of our members. Co creating flickr foundation’s 100 year plan, researchers at the oxford internet institute (oii) developed a one day workshop to establish principles for designing infrastructure that can preserve flickr’s digital photographic collection of tens of billions images for the next 100 years. Flickr.org has launched – a new foundation that will run alongside the company with the mission of growing, stewarding, and preserving the flickr commons – its archive of historic and culturally significant photographs to ensure this remains safe and in the public domain for another 100 years.
