Today we are making the f1 instances generally available in the us east (n. virginia) region, with plans to bring them to other regions before too long. we continued to add features and functions during the preview, while also making the development tools more efficient and easier to use. As part of the developer preview we are also making an fpga developer ami available. you can launch this ami on a memory optimized or compute optimized instance for development and simulation, and then use an f1 instance for final debugging and testing.

Amazon ec2 f1 instances do come with an fpga developer ami that includes supporting hardware level development tools. this ami allows users to develop, simulate, debug, and compile their hardware acceleration code in the cloud. If you have never used aws before, we recommend you start with aws getting started training, focusing on the basics of the aws ec2 and aws s3 services. understanding the fundamentals of these services will further enhance the developer experience with aws f2 instances and the fpga developer kit. Using the development kit, you can architect, simulate, optimize, and test your designs. we are retiring the f1 instances on december 20, 2025. only existing f1 customers who have run f1 instances anytime between dec 2023 dec 2024 can restart or launch new f1 instances. Aws fpga development kit is runtime tools for designing, debugging, compiling, & running hardware accelerated programs on amazon ec2 f1 instances.
