Cscs Course Work | PDF | Expert | Academic Degree After the forced shutdown due to a cyber attack, cscs engineers have restored a secure environment. users have now again access to the computing infrastructure to continue their research work. It is open to all swiss researchers and their assistants, who can get free access to cscs' supercomputers in a competitive scientific evaluation process. in addition, the centre operates dedicated computing facilities for specific research projects and national mandates, e.g. weather forecasting.

CSCS Supercomputer Back At Work | CSCS The swiss national supercomputing centre (cscs) has switched off its piz daint supercomputer. after more than a decade of use, the system went offline on january 23. Founded in 1991, cscs, the swiss national supercomputing centre, develops and provides the key supercomputing capabilities required to solve important problems to science and/or society. The swiss national supercomputing center, also known as cscs, built and deployed a new supercomputer in collaboration with nvidia and hpe. The last computer that has been switched off in manno has been a cray xt4 named buin that has been used in the last five years to compute the numerical weather forecast for meteoswiss.

The swiss national supercomputing centre (cscs), hewlett packard enterprise (hpe) and nvidia today announced that they are creating what is expected to be the world’s most powerful ai capable supercomputer. The supercomputer service is based on the daint grace hopper cluster (combined cpu plus gpu) and the eiger cluster (cpu only), both part of alps, the hpe cray ex supercomputer operated at the swiss national supercomputing centre (ethz/cscs). It was founded in 1991, long before i arrived, and it’s where we deploy and operate supercomputers, the biggest of which is alps, which came online in 2024. before alps, we had already deployed many other supercomputers. As anticipated by the press release, “planned to come online in 2023, the “alps” system infrastructure will replace cscs’s existing piz daint supercomputer and serve as a general purpose system open to the broad community of researchers in switzerland and the rest of the world”.
