Musical Geography | Mapping Music And Musicians Through Time Throughout this project, the 2022 musical geography team has worked collaboratively in archival research, digital mapping, and writing prose. each of the five students specialized in particular skills, though each student contributed to each aspect of the project. The first of the projects, in summer 2015, focused on researching and visualizing the musical geography of 1924 paris, exploring new ways to represent and reconstruct music history.

The Musical Project We’re exploring the intersections of space, time, and sound through map centered investigations of music and musicians. This project was co authored by more than a dozen teams of undergraduates at st. olaf college working within classes and across summer research experiences and independent studies in collaboration with – and under the supervision of – associate professor of music louis epstein. The musical geography project is a collaborative, digital humanities, musicological research initiative initiated by dr. louis epstein at st. olaf college in 2015. This portfolio features a wide range of projects that discuss engaging research questions using mapping techniques. our research teams consistently add new projects that we think are worth sharing.
